Quick Diet promises losing a Pound in a day

I’ve come across a diet that promises fast slimming effect in 7 to 14 days.

The Scarsdale diet is a guarantees shedding at least a pound a day. Website feedbacks and forum have dieters claiming that some of them have even lost a total of 20 pounds after the 14-day period, although much of the weight loss is mainly due to the loss of water in the body.

The Scarsdale Diet has a peculiar nutrient ratio – the only diet exactly like this. It contains 43% protein, 22.5% fat, and 34.5% carbohydrate. It is also low in calorie (about 1000 per day)

It has a very simple menu to follow but should be strictly adhered to. Fruits, vegetables and lean animal fats are included in the diet but snacking in between meals is not allowed. However, carrot and celery, due to their high fiber content, are allowed when you have strong munchies and it is still long before you can have another meal. Ensure that the meat you’ll eat should be lean meat.

The following is an example of a menu for Scarsdale dieters:

Breakfast:

Coffee or tea with sugar substitute and a half of a grapefruit and a slice of protein bread

Lunch:

Assorted cold cuts with tomatoes (sliced, broiled or stewed) and coffee or tea

Dinner:

As much broiled fish or shellfish as you like along with a slice of protein bread, unlimited salad and a grapefruit

Eating vegetable as main source of protein have paved the way for Scarsdale Vegetarian Diet, although there are certain vegetables that are not permitted on this diet. Dry beans (baked beans, lentils, dry white beans, red kidney beans, lima beans, chick peas, black-eyed peas, etc; except soybeans, which are permitted in the Vegetarian diet), sweet potatoes and yams should not be eaten. Other than those mentioned, you can eat all the vegetables you want. Salads are okay but the dressings that you can use are limited. You may only use lemon, or vinegar as dressings. You cannot have any butter, margarine, or fats.

Below is an example of a Vegetarian Scarsdale diet:

Breakfast:

Coffee or tea with sugar substitute and a half of a grapefruit and a slice of protein bread

Lunch:

Watercress (or broccoli) soup
Baked potato with low-fat cottage cheese & chives OR 1 oz. uncooked/ 4 oz. cooked soybeans
6 halves of walnuts or pecans
Baked Apple
Tea/coffee/herb tea

Dinner:

2 slices cheese of your choice on lettuce
Ratatouille
Artichoke hearts (no oil), cucumbers, radishes
1 slice protein bread, toasted
Cantaloupe or watermelon or sliced orange
Tea/coffee/herb tea

Beverages such as coffees (no cream, no sugar), diet sodas, herbal tea and sugar-free drinks are permitted but alcoholic drinks are strictly forbidden. Sugar is strictly not allowed in this diet, so the drinks the drinks permitted should only be sweetened with artificial sweeteners.
Like any other low carb diet, the Scarsdale diet works on the principle of ketosis, which means that the body uses the  body’s  fat reserves as the source of energy. Due to the diet’s very low caloric intake, side effects like  extreme hunger, mood swings, and loss of energy may happen. As a result, it can be difficult to stick by this diet on  a long-term basis. Once you stop, you’ll start regaining  the weight you’ve lost while on this diet.

Of course, it’s still best to consult a nutritional expert or your doctor before you embark on any diet.
