Dandruff is a scalp condition marked by white flakes on the scalp and itching. It is caused by a yeast-like fungus called malassezia, also known as pityrosporum. Malassezia is normally found on the scalp without causing problems, however, if it grows unchecked due to many causes such as hormone imbalances, stress, immune suppression, infrequent shampooing, illness, or increased oil production, it could result to mild inflammation that produces dead skin cells. The dead cells mix with oil and clump together, making them appear white and flaky.

It may be a common condition but it does’n make it less embarrassing. Imagine your looking dapper on a nice, dark suit but plagued with dandruff flakes on your shoulder, and constantly scratching your head. Not a good sight, right? Dandruff can also cause hair loss, acne, pimples and premature hair greying, so it should be treated before it can get severe and chronic.

Unfortunately, most of the dandruff treatments available today can be harsh and may worsen the condition. But did you know that relief may be no farther away than your refrigerator? Here are some of them, most of which you can easily find in your kitchen and medicine cabinets.

Yogurt and Black pepper
Yogurt reduces the intensity of scaling. Mix 2 teaspoon of black pepper powder in a cup of curd and blend it thoroughly. Then rub this mixture into dandruff affected scalp and after an hour, wash it with a mild shampoo.
