For many years now, Johnny Depp has been visiting hospitals for kids, dressed up as Captain Jack Sparrow from the popular movie series, “Pirates of the Caribbean”. It’s something that many fans look forward to seeing each year, as it does warm the heart to see such a famous star taking time off his busy schedule to make sick kids happy.
He doesn’t even have to do this – a lot of stars just donate to charity, yet Depp does this year after year. He certainly makes the kids, their families, and the hospital happy with his visits.
The actor spent time with the young patients at Curie Institute in Paris, France last December 28, 2018. Just like what he does each year, the actor arrived as Captain Jack Sparrow. He gamely took photos with the children and indulged fans who wanted to have his autograph.
On its social media account, the hospital tweeted (in French):
“Surprise visit by Jack Sparrow. The most famous pirate to children & teens of our # pediatrics service! A gift that gave joy to the patients, families, caregivers, doctors, and researchers. Huge thanks to Johnny Depp for his time, his comfort & his energy.”
This year, people were unsure whether he would continue doing this – but he did! After all, he had been axed from the film series!
Just some weeks ago, announced that the film series needs “new energy and vitality”. In line with this new goal, Disney executive Sean Bailey announced that they decided to drop Depp from future movies.
“I think he’s had a great run. Obviously, he’s made that character his own and it’s become the character he’s most famous for now,” explained scriptwriter Stuart Beattie.
“I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It’s the only character he’s played five times, it’s the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it’s what he’ll be remembered for.”
But while he will no longer appear in future movies, many fans were thankful that Depp continues his yearly tradition of visiting children at the hospital as Captain Jack Sparrow!
