Where to Next: Cagbalete, a DIY friendly island in Quezon

One of the most go-to destinations during summer is the beach.

Good thing it’s never too late for you to visit one. The weather is just getting hotter in the Philippines. It is the perfect time for you to de-stress from work and take some time off for yourself.

Cagbalete island is a paradise located off the coast of Mauban in Quezon Province.

With its clear waters and fine white sand, Cagbalete island provides an amazing yet DIY-friendly adventure for everyone. It’s a place where you can experience a breathtaking view of the sunset while making the most out of your budget.

The place allows you to enjoy beach activities and get a chill island vibe away from crowded tourist destinations.

Getting There

  • Ride a Jac Liner bus in Cubao or Buendia bound for Mauban. Trips are scheduled at 4:00 am and 11:00 am. You also have the option to ride other buses at any time going to Lucena. Just ask the conductor to drop you off at Lucena Grand terminal. Travel time usually takes four hours.
  • From Lucena Grand Terminal, ride a van going to Mauban.
  • Look for Mauban Local Tourist Port where you can pay the environmental fee and book for passenger or private boats going to the island. Travel time takes 45 minutes to one hour.

Where to Stay

There are resorts in the island that offers budget-friendly packages. You can also hitch a tent if you like a different kind of experience. Tents are also available for rental in some resorts. Just talk to them and know the best deals they can provide.

You can choose any of them that suits your preference.

Activities

Cagbalate island may seem to be very serene but it’ll still let you to be on an adventure. Aside from swimming, you can also do other beach activities like kayaking, skimboarding, paddle board, and have a bonfire, too!

You can also visit the bonsai island which has an amazing rock formation, located right in front of Villa Cleofas Beach Resort. It is best to come here during low tides as you can jump into jacuzzi-like holes and feel the warm water from the sun’s heat. 

Food

You can buy food at the Mauban Public Market prior to your boarding schedule. It is recommended that you bring your own water enough for your stay.

Some resorts also have their own cafeteria where you can opt to buy from their menu. You can contact them beforehand so they are aware that you are planning to order food from them.
