A Texas man is eating dog food for a month to prove it is healthy. Mitch Felderhoff, one of the owners of Muenster Milling Company, a family-owned holistic dog food company announced on social media that he will eat dog food for 30 days in a bid to show customers that the pet food they produce is safe for dogs to eat.
Felderhoff’s move comes following reports of popular dog food brands in the United States being linked to canine h
eart condition. Last year the Food and Drug Administration linked 16 popular dog food brands to the condition.
Many of these products were billed as healthier options and marketed as “wholesome,” “high-protein,” and “all-natural” alternatives to conventional dog food. Many replaced ingredients like legume seeds, potatoes, wheat and corn with peas.
In an apparent effort to pacify dog owners’ fear about the safety of their products, Felderhoff wanted to show it is safe to consume dog food by consuming this himself.
He said that many consumers do not know where their pet’s food products come from and would want to know if these are safe for their pets to eat.
“So we thought, ‘Let’s put a face behind the bag, and let’s show them that we trust what we’re putting in the food.’ We thought, ‘There’s no better way to do it than to eat our own food.’ We thought, ‘We’re not going to feed your dog anything that we haven’t eaten ourselves,'” Felderhoff said.
He has posted videos of himself eating kibble and freeze-dried dog foods Muenster Milling produces on his Instagram account. He also bought a dog food bowl, which he uses to consume his meals from.
Felderhoff’s family decided not to take part on Felderhoff’s food adventure and continues to eat people food.
