Eating healthy foods is good for your body, but there are times when you need to avoid some of them, such as when you are sick.

Some normally healthy foods can make sick people feel worse by exacerbating the symptoms of their illness. Here are some of the otherwise healthy foods that you may need to avoid if you have a health problem:

You may have to skip milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, buttermilk and other dairy food products when you have a gastrointestinal issue because these milk products contain lactose. Lactose is broken down in the stomach with the aid of the digestive enzyme known as lactase.

Lactase can becomes temporarily depleted as a result of the inflammation in the lining of the gut, where the digestive enzyme is located, so eating dairy can worsen stomach problems such as bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Avoid eating nuts during the beginning stages of a digestive problem, particularly if you experience fever. Nuts contain high amounts of fats, so the body needs to work harder to digest them. This can worsen an already upset stomach and drain your body of energy you otherwise need to fight infection.

Raw Vegetables

It may not be a good idea to eat raw veggies if you have a cough or sore throat. Depending on the severity of your condition, foods with rough or jagged texture can be harder to swallow and cause further irritation.

Citrus Fruits

Oranges, lemons and tangerines are supposed to provide your body with a healthy dose of vitamin C, as well as electrolytes like potassium when you are sick, but do you know that these should be avoided in cases of cough or sore throat? The acidity levels of these fruits, you see,  can further irritate your throat and worsen your symptoms.
