Health Line explained what causes these dark spots.

“When a pimple pops up on you skin, it is technically a form of inflammation. And as your skin heals and new skin cells form, it is possible that the cells sent to help restore your skin’s smooth surface contain too much melanin,” they said.

Medicine.net, meanwhile, shared that melanin gives human skin, hair, and eyes their color. So, when other cells have more melanin than the others, it can lead to a darker spot on the skin. These can take from three months to two years to completely disappear, but there are products you can try in order to get rid of them.

Lemon juice

Health Line explained that lemon juice, which is rich in Vitamin C can help brighten and even out your skin tone.

“Vitamin C has been shown to be an effective depigmenting agent that decreases melanin formation,” they said.

Applying aloe vera on your dark spots can help even out the level of melanin. “It is true that aloe is an exceptional healing agent, especially when it comes to your skin,” the website further explained.

Salicylic Acid

Medical News Today said that using salicylic acid can clear dirt and skin cells that cause acne. Aside from this, it can also ease swelling and redness of acne, minimizing the scarring.

“Salicylic acid is beneficial for all scar types. It makes a good addition to a daily skin care routine for most people who live with acne,” they said.
