  • Wearing a mask while exercising is now among the important things one must practice nowadays
  • Because wearing a mask is now a priority, it is recommended to choose what mask works for you
  • It is also important to let your body get used to your routines

Now that we are shifting to the new normal, we are starting to do almost all things in a new way.

Even the simplest things that we used to enjoy before with not much precaution must now be done mindfully. This includes exercising.

When exercising outside your home, you are required to wear a face mask. No matter how suffocating it can be it’s the new normal; it must be followed.

But what face mask must be used when exercising?

It actually does not matter what kind of face mask you should wear as long as you are comfortable with it.

According to Vivek Cherian, an internal medical physician, the right face mask must be breathable, fit well, and must not get wet while sweating and breathing hard during the workout.

The bottom line, he said, is to listen to your body and know what makes you comfortable.

It was also noted that it is important to pace and strive for endurance rather than intensity. For example, when running, it is recommended to run a longer distance than aim for intensity or speed.

Cherian said give your self a time to get used to wearing a face mask while exercising. If it’s necessary to take slightly longer breaks between sets than you would normally do then give yourself that break.

It is also worth noting to know when to stop or when to go hard. If feeling unwell, you must stop working out immediately and go away from the crowd and go to a place where you are allowed to remove your mask so you can catch your breath more naturally.

You should also bear in mind to stop exercising when feeling dizzy or lightheaded and when you are suffering from headache, chest pain, shortness of breath, or if you are feeling as if you may pass out.

In short, make sure you’re truly fit to do those energetic moves.
